He values the club’s strong sense of community, camaraderie, and, of course, its legendary parties. Ryan enjoys spending time at the club with his wife, Maria, and their two daughters, Jordan (6) and Riley (1), who are quickly learning that MVYC summers are hard to beat. When he’s not working or volunteering, Ryan loves spending time with his family and taking part in all the fun that makes the club such a special place. |
Gayle Wood Secretary Gayle and John Wood moved to Mt. Vernon in 1995 to do a 3 year stint with the Navy. Then they planned on getting back closer to the ocean. Well, here they are 30 years later and loving Mt. Vernon. But they still love the water, and are happy to have the Potomac River and the MVYC as part of their lives. Before marriage and the travels of Navy life, Gayle was an accountant with an MBA. After settling in Mt. Vernon, Gayle enjoyed raising their son, Ryan, and becoming a “professional” volunteer. There were 13 years of Running Club at Washington Mill, complete with multi school competitive track meets, several years as PTA President, and terms as President and Treasurer of Mansion House Pool. Gayle also served as Grounds Director on the MVYC Board in 2021/22. There were also 5 wonderful high school exchange students from overseas. She is still very active with exchange students. Gayle loves the folks she has met at MVYC, especially those avid gardeners who have taught her so much. |

After college he raced keelboats as a law student in Cleveland, Flying Scots in Pittsburgh, and finally Buccaneers at PRSA in Arlington before hunkering down for a life of slow Catalina sailing here at MVYC. Bonnie "Mommadore" Breneman Security Bonnie joined MVYC` in 1990 and immediately became active in the Power Fleet. Her first boat, the original SeaBraT was a 23 ft Regal Ambassador cabin cruiser. It was the smallest boat on many an annual MVYC bay cruise. In 2001, she was elected as a director, serving as membership chair and in 2002 as rear commodore, completing the term of a member who resigned. As vice commodore under the fantastic leadership of Commodore Jim Hamrick, she helped MVYC members, boats & docks survive Hurricane Isabel and supported Commodore Hamrick & the rest of the Board in planning for a more hurricane-proof marina of the future. That plan was executed during her term as commodore, under the management of Bill Gard. After completing two years as commodore, turning the leadership responsibility over to Chris Ruckman, she continued serving the club by assisting many membership chairs in their time-consuming work. Just when she thought she had retired, Commodore Alexi Stavropoulos asked her serve as security chair and here she remains! |

Jerry Grey Gas Dock Gerald and Petra Gray joined MVYC in 2004. At that time we were living in Del Ray, and Bill Gard told us about this great marina. We moved to Mount Vernon in 2005. Our daughter, Alex, was 2 years old when we joined and grew up at the club, participating in swim team from 5 through 16 years old. Alex graduated from the University of Colorado in May of this year. Petra has participated in several Commodores Ball committees, swim team, and Anniversary celebration committees, starting with the 50th. I was on the board from 2006 through 2014 and Commodore in 2013-2014. During that time, I was Marina chair for a few years and Security. I took over the gas dock in 2006 and got us in compliance with the Virginia DEQ. In 2018, I managed the project to replace our underground tank and pump. We currently have our 4th boat named Alex J since joining the club and still enjoy boating every chance we get. |

Having grown up in land-locked Ohio, this whole yacht thing still feels new to Rick. Nonetheless, there are 4 kayaks on the dock and a standup paddleboard in the garage. Of course, the best part of MVYC has been meeting the many great Club members. Rick and Lisa have 6 children, 4 of whom were part of the MVYC Dolphins for many seasons. Now that they are grown, it is nice to have Saturday mornings back. (Oops, I mean, we miss cheering on the Dolphins every Saturday…) For those who do not know him, Rick does not take himself too seriously. (But he does take punctuation and spelling seriously. If you catch any errors in the weekly newsletter, please let him know!) | Tracy Hayes MVYC Website Team Lead 571-213-7390 Tracy has been a part of the MVYC community since her mother joined in 1990.
